Welcome
Federation of Tax Administrators President Linda Tanton of Maryland, Board Member Roxanne Huber of the Colorado Department of Revenue and the FTA Board of Trustees invite you to join us at the 77th Annual Meeting of the Federation of Tax Administrators at the Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown in Denver, Colorado, the Mile High City and Gateway to the Rockies, from May 31 - June 3, 2009.
Denver, the capital of Colorado, was established by a party of prospectors on November 22, 1858, after a gold discovery at the confluence of the Cherry Creek River and the South Platte River. Other gold discoveries sparked a mass migration of some 100,000 in 1859-60, leading the federal government to establish Colorado Territory in 1861.
Today, Denver has the nation's largest city park system, with more than 200 parks within the city limits and 20,000 acres of parks in the nearby mountains — an area larger than all of Manhattan Island. Denver has 300 days of bright sunshine a year — more annual hours of sun than San Diego or Miami Beach. Denver International Airport is the nation's largest — 53 square miles, an area so large it could hold the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and Chicago O'Hare Airport combined. Denver is one of only two cities in America with eight professional sports teams, including Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies, NHL Colorado Avalanche, NBA Denver Nuggets and NFL Denver Broncos. Denver is also known as a cultural center of the mountain west area. The Denver Performing Arts Complex is the world's largest performing arts center under one roof, with dozens of annual performances by traveling groups or the city's own ballet, dance, and opera companies. The Red Rocks Amphitheater plays host to some of the nation's top bands among the sandstone foothills, and the Denver Art Museum has the largest collection of artwork between Kansas and the West Coast.
Rocky Mountain grandeur is within one hour’s drive west of downtown, making Denver a great place for urban and outdoor pursuits. Come to Denver in 2009, share information about trends in tax management and enjoy all that the city and surrounding areas have to offer you.
